I'm Not A Regular Boss. I'm A Cool Boss.

As an owner of Central Park Farms and the step mom of two, once the business started to grow, I figured I’d become the boss of two teenagers but fast forward and suddenly we’re employing four teens here on the farm.

Honestly, I still can’t even figure out how this little farm of mine grew big enough to employ one person besides myself let alone where we are today.

PS, if you didn’t get the reference in the title of this blog — It’s from Mean Girls… apparently now that I’m a teen boss I’ve reverted back to teenager friendly references.

I’m not really cool, I promise.

This summer, we were so lucky to have been able to bring on some extra help at the ranch with my nephew Dayton and two of his close friends. They helped us with fencing and getting the property ready to be there more starting in 2022.

Now the reason I wanted to share more about this crew is that starting this year we were brought into the WAVE program with Dayton and Matthew’s high school.

WAVE is a program that allows both the grade 12’s to earn graduation credits through their work with us — It is such an incredible program!

It involved filling out some paperwork and having a site inspection to make sure that we are workers compensation compliant which I appreciate. Farming is a dangerous industry so I’m glad the school board wanted to make sure the boys were safe in their rolls with us.

I think it’s so cool that schools are starting to recognize how much young people can learn outside of the classroom through different employment opportunities.

If you’re an employer who’s interested in more information, here’s a link: https://careered.sd35.bc.ca/opportunities/wave/

Now it’s perhaps worth mentioning that you can get volunteer students through this program but our guys are all paid employees and were before they started in the WAVE program. I say that simply because I want to thank you for supporting our farm in a way that allows us to employ these guys. They work so incredible hard and are a vital part of our business.
