Around the Table: Backyard Taco Night

A taco bar set up on a wooden table featuring pulled pork tacos

We’re regular entertainers in our house, and most of my favourite evenings don't start with a complicated recipe.

They start with a few people around the table, something cold to drink, and dinner that nearly makes itself because my priority when it comes to hosting is for everyone to enjoy themselves… me included.

When the weather is warm, the last place I want to be is stuck inside cooking for hours. I'd much rather spend that time outside with family and friends.

That's why taco night has become one of my favourite summer meals.

The best part? Almost everything comes together from products we already keep in the farm store.

Build Your Taco Bar

Guests always compliment how we set up for dinner but I’ll be honest, we really don’t over think it. I love a mismatch of serving dishes, utensils, and linens for a relaxed and lived in look.

Set everything out in bowls or on wooden boards and let everyone build their own.

Here's what we're loving right now:

Pulled Chicken or Pulled pork

Our slow-cooked pulled chicken and pulled pork by Chef Adrian is ready to heat and makes the perfect taco filling.

Lita's Tortillas

Soft, locally made tortillas that hold everything together without falling apart. They’re so much better than other soft taco shells because they comes raw so you simply fry them for 60 seconds to cook and then serve. Find them in the farm store freezers.

Taste of Okanagan Fire Roasted Salsa

One of those pantry staples that instantly makes tacos taste homemade.

Caliente Authentic Tortilla Chips

Set these out before dinner and you'll instantly create that relaxed, backyard gathering feeling.

BC Brined Pickled Jalapeños

For anyone who likes a little heat.

Gladstone Hot Sauce

Because someone at every table always asks where the hot sauce is.

Fresh Cilantro, avocado & Lime

Simple additions that make everything feel fresh.

Creamy Coleslaw

A crunchy topping that balances the smoky chicken and pork perfectly.

That's it, just heat the meat, fry the tortillas, set everything out on the table and let everyone build their own tacos.

It's one of those meals that feels special without creating extra dishes or keeping you in the kitchen all evening. And really, that's what summer entertaining is all about: good food, good company and making it easy enough that you'll want to do it again next weekend.

Everything featured on our table (except the fresh produce) can be found in our farm store.
